About Watts

Watts can be considered the epicenter of Los Angeles' working class history - a microcosm of America's dramatic demographic shifts. It is a neighborhood that has endured the most daring tests of our local history, an area that has been demonized by some and cherished profoudly by others. Produced by students from Locke High School, this series of Departures gives an honest portrait of the people and places who claim Watts as their own. Walk down Central Avenue and find out for yourself.

I love hearing the sounds your students recorded. My favorite piece is the clip about sagging. "It's a jail thing." Great detail. Nice work Locke High School students and KCET.

I've had the pleasure of working with the Locke High group. A wonderful and inspiring group. I wish the kids and the program continued success.

It was fun working on the Watts Departures KCET project. I'm a student in Ms. Bradford's music tech class and it was cool to get a chance to get involved with the Locke High School community.

It was a new experience working on the Watts Departures project with my fellow Locke Students and teacher Ms. Bradford. I enjoyed listening to the interviews and what the community has to say about Watts. I also want to thank my teacher Ms. Bradford for giving me the chance to work on this big exciting project.

Working on the KCET Watts Departures Audio and Video Portraits was really interesting and I enjoyed it. It was a good experience and I'm thinking about becoming a film editor. I would like thank Ms. Bradford for giving me the opportunity to work on this.
